Operators are trusted entities that execute on behalf of accounts, functioning as service providers or agents within the dBOOK ecosystem. They lie at the core of interoperability, seamlessly bridging multiple on-chain and off-chain ecosystems.
Depending on the service required, operators may take on various roles:
Solvers/Fillers: Facilitate cross-chain trades, matching liquidity across different blockchains and settlement layers
KYC Providers: Handle identity verification and compliance checks to ensure regulatory adherence
Centralized Exchanges (CEXs): Manage off-exchange settlements while interfacing with decentralized components of the network
dBOOK is designed to preserve self-custody of user assets until services are fully and correctly executed:
Locked Assets: When a user requests a service, their assets remain locked in their own account until the service is successfully completed and not challenged by
Conditional Operator Payment: Operators receive payment only after the is validated—i.e., no successful challenge has been made against them. If a challenge is upheld, Operators risk slashing and forfeiture of potential rewards
Trustless Execution: Since Operators are compensated only upon verified service completion, there is a strong incentive for them to act honestly and fulfill the requested services correctly. Users retain custody throughout the process, minimizing counterparty risk and ensuring a trustless environment
Operators play a vital role in sustaining the dBOOK network by offering a range of fee-based services and potentially creating new economic models. For instance:
Fee-for-Service:
Cross-Chain Settlement Fees: Collect fees for bridging assets between chains or settling trades.
KYC/Compliance Services: Charge accounts or projects needing user verification, potentially on a recurring or per-verification basis.
Subscription Models:
Compliance-as-a-Service: Provide ongoing KYC monitoring and compliance checks for projects that require continuous oversight.
Liquidity Provision Subscriptions: Offer guaranteed liquidity or dedicated cross-chain bridging
Emerging Economies:
Integration and Customization: Operators could provide specialized integrations with traditional financial systems or niche blockchains, creating new revenue streams.
